Your 2020 Skincare Goals

This article was first published  in first in the Ayana Magazine blog.

We’re officially in a new decade, welcome to 2020. We’re also in the midst of January which means, everyone is doing their resolutions and setting goals for the new year. I don’t know about you but better skin is a definite goal for me this year. I compiled this list of skin care tips especially for babes on budget (because, January). Incorporate these beauty hacks into your routine and you’ll be glowing your way through 2020.

Do the sugar free challenge

Sugar causes inflammation in the body and the excess inflammation can trigger acne, eczema and psoriasis. Consuming less sugar means better skin. You don’t have to eliminate all sugars, just try to limit simple carbohydrates and processed sugar from your diet. There are some good sugar alternatives on the market so this shouldn’t be too difficult. Cutting out sugar improves the texture of the skin, prevents acne, can decrease the appearance of wrinkles and can prevent premature aging of the skin. Check out the #90dayswithoutsugar challenge on Twitter for some inspiration to go sugar free.

Ice your face

This is a simple hack that originates from the east and it can change your skin for good. Ice causes blood to rise to the surface of the skin and in turn soothes and tightens your skin and gives you a rosy glow. Icing the face can also shrink your pores and reduces inflammation from breakouts. To begin wrap some ice in a thin cotton cloth  and massage it across the skin. You can also make your own ice cubes infused with rose water, aloe or cucumber. Remember to cleanse your face before applying the ice and apply your serums and moisturisers after. My favourite beauty hack is to ice the face before applying makeup (concentrate under the eyes especially), your makeup application will be flawless.

Use rosehip oil for your skin, hair and nails

Rosehip oil is a hot new trend in skincare. The oil is derived from a cold-pressing process that removes oil from rosehips, the fruit just below the rose flower according to New York City dermatologist Joshua Zeichner, MD. The result is an ultra-hydrating oil that has developed a cult following for its ability to nourish and soothe skin. Use a few drops of rosehip oil to moisturise the skin, this will result in a clearer and more radiant complexion. You can also use rosehip oil on your hair, and moisturise your hands for stronger and healthier nails.

Love yourself!

Remember beauty starts from the inside, when you feel beautiful you look beautiful. Take time to appreciate yourself, detach from toxic spaces and start the day with positive affirmations.

Here’s to wishing you all a beautiful New Year!
